Konfabulator for Windows

17thNov. × ’04

Konfabulator now has a Windows version available. Since I have a registered (paid for) copy of the original Mac version I was hoping to be able to use that registration key for the Windows version. After an email to their support to ask that and if they plan on releasing a Linux version I got my answer, which is no. “Konfabulator for Windows is a separate product and requires a different key.”, that is what I was told and if it stays the same I will not be buying the Windows version. It is a shame too, because I was excited about being able to use the same widgets between the different Windows workstations I use and my Powerbook. Just like how I am able to sync my bookmarks in Firefox between all the Linux, Windows and Macs I use by way of an extension called Bookmarks Synchronizer.

Russell Miles post at O’Reilly Developer Weblogs is where I first found out about the windows version.

Upping the Ante: Konfabulator goes cross-platform by Russell Miles — Mac OS X users have enjoyed using Konfabulator in order to code striking and useful widgets for their desktop in the past. Mac OS X Tiger took some of the wind out of Konfabulator’s sails with the advent of Dashboard. Konfabulator’s powerful response appears to be to make Konfabulator, along with your existing plethora of widgets, cross-platform.

LOL. Their software is cross-platform but their serial code isn’t? Even “real” software companies like FileMaker allow that heck even Microsoft will give you a home license if you ask off of your existing business license. I am so tired of Rose and his whining I removed all of it from my system. He cried like a baby when Apple put platinum and themes in OS 8 too. I guess the first guy that wrote a word processor should sue Microsoft now too! Oh…and Arlo Microsoft has widget like tools coming in Longhorn but you still have some time…then you can whine and cry again! What fun!
